POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Level III Design Engineer uses previous experience in Janicki Industries design procedures, standards, and expectations to provide design leadership for tooling, production part and factory integration projects. The position will be responsible for direct management of a team of designers to support Janicki ‘Home Site’ and ‘Direct Site’ design. The Level III Design Engineer will routinely coordinate with remote JI employees as well as offload engineering to lead large design programs. In addition to design responsibilities as a leader of a satellite office they will cultivate customer relations and foster design team development. Successful Lead Design Engineers may become eligible for role advancement in the Design Engineer Job hierarchy, with additional associated opportunities and responsibilities, at the discretion of the supervisor.
The following essential job functions are performed as a Level III Design Engineer:
- Fulfills a leadership role in managing and mentoring a project design team, effectively delegates tasks, manages risks and takes responsibility for team performance
- Guides and reviews the development and execution of specific design plans
- Completes specific designs to SOW specifications
- Acts as the JI Focal to local and visiting customers
- Provides estimates for scheduling and planning
- Capable of leading and guiding complex mechanical designs
- Coordinates tool specifications and plan design reviews
- Coordinates with stakeholders and manages off-load work
- Enforces industry standards and practices throughout all work performed
- Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred. Education may be substituted with equivalent industry experience.
- Recommended 3 to 5 years experience as a Design Engineer Level II
- Must have strong communication skills through written, verbal, and graphical mediums in the English language
- Command of CATIA and NX CAD software, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office, is required
DESIGN ENGINEER LEVEL III GOALS
- Advance performance of Janicki design teams
- Provide coordinated design effort on a variety of large projects
- Effectively mentor Level I Design Engineers and receive positive feedback from mentee; understand mentoring best practices
- Complete management training, including project scheduling and WO processes

WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to work at keyboard for extended periods of time. Must be able to perform physical tasks on the production floor on occasion. May involve use of tools or climbing on parts. Physical hazards such as being in the immediate area with forklifts and other heavy equipment unavoidable. Chemical hazards in production work areas unavoidable.
