POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Mold Fabrication Technician performs a variety of duties and utilizes multiple skillsets. Technicians are required to follow detailed instructions and drawings for the creation of infused composite facesheets for industrial tooling or fly-ready parts. Composite fabric lay-up, vacuum integrity, infusion, mold stripping, substructure assembly, tabbing, and sealant application are some of the daily tasks.
The Mold Fabrication Technician has three levels of competency to be determined by performance, certifications, and supervisor discretion:
- i. Basic to Capable
- ii. Proficient to Expert
- iii. Proficient to Expert and includes Certifications for Metrology and/or Welding
The following essential job functions are performed as a Mold Fabrication Technician:
- Attention to detail and quality is required
- Reads and understands blueprints, isometric drawings and work orders
- Receives and carries out directions from designated Supervisors and Production Leads
- Must be able to understand and comply with Safety Practices, AS9100, NADCAP and 5S Practices
- Identifies and obtains equipment, tools and materials needed to properly perform job function
- Set up scaffolding and safety barriers under direction
- Properly executes Hazardous Material Disposal activities
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly, FOD free condition
- Knowledge and use of common hand tools
- Works in other Cells to support Production as required, ie; Mill or Assembly Cells
- Performs on the job training, AS9100, NADCAP training and other training as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines. The incumbent shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
- Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job.

U.S. PERSON STATUS MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION.
Proof of US Citizenship or Permanent Residency may be required due to access to sensitive data and our coverage under EAR and ITAR regulations.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED required, college level or trade school education preferred. One or more years of experience in related field may be substituted for education. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Experience in aircraft frame assembly/maintenance and/or painting would be a plus.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
Job duties may include one or more of the following:
- Cuts and lays composite fabric and flow media to design specifications under supervision
- Vacuum bagging in order to prepare parts for drop tests, de-bulking fabric and infusion
- Assists with the mixing, application, and infusion of resins/catalysts
- Performs tabbing operations to work order specifications
- Advanced Assembly Procedures, will include detailed substructure and hardware installation
- Janicki Certified, Overhead Crane, Forklift and Manlift Operation (as separate certifications)
- Operation of Pneumatic and Power tools, drills, grinders, saws, impact drivers, sanders, scissors sharpener and other tools including Calibrated Digital scales, and measuring devices
- Welding – Janicki Certification, FCAW, GMAW, S-FCAW, INVAR, TIG, MIG, Plasma cutting, Oxy-Acetylene cutting (as a separate Certification)
- Metal Fabrication, bending, forming, cutting, grinding, and welding applications of detailed blueprints as well as use of horizontal bandsaw
- Metrology, part leveling, fixturing, equipment handling, laser tracker, radar and targeting as well as Spatial Analyzer Operation (as a separate Certification)
- Oven Operation, the heating of composite materials to specific cure schedules in Gas or electric permanent ovens or temporarily constructed floor ovens powered by mobile gas or electric heat sources. (as a separate Certification)
- Perform aerospace tool finishing utilizing sanding, grinding of exacting tolerances on flat surfaces and compound curves as well as doing detailed patch/repairs on the same
- Performs machine and hand sanding, grinding, buffing as required
- Understanding of mill gauging procedures
- Familiar with the use/cleaning of shop paint guns and equipment
- Prepare surfaces and apply Re-spray of Putty, Foam Re-spray, gel coat or epoxy per work order
- Apply Duratec and hybrid Duratec (as a separate Certification)
- Putty Application, Initial spray and Vacuum Integrity Spray (as a separate Certification)
- Apply Foam or Chop as needed to create molds for machining (as a separate Certification)
- Performs Wet Lay applications including use of Wet Lay gun and maintenance
- Package and crate parts for shipment, includes shrink wrapping
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to sit, stand, or crouch down for extended periods. Must be able to climb ladders and work platforms. Exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and paint fumes. Must be able to work under hot and cold conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE), safety glasses and respirator will be required. Must be comfortable working within confined spaces and at various heights
