POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Assembly Technician performs a variety of duties and multiple uses of different skillsets.
Technicians are required to follow detailed instructions and drawings, in the assembly of tooling fixtures, precision weldments, machined surfaces and fly-away aerospace parts. Drilling, tapping, grinding, hardware placement, and precise aerospace tool finishes are common tasks.
The Assembly Technician has three levels of competency to be determined by performance, certifications, and supervisor discretion:
- I. Basic to Capable
- II. Proficient to Expert
- III. Proficient to Expert and includes Certifications for Metrology, NC Programming, and/or Welding
The following essential job functions are performed as an Assembly Technician:
- Attention to detail and quality is required
- Reads and understands blueprints, isometric drawings and work orders
- Receives and carries out directions from designated Supervisors and Production Leads
- Must be able to understand and comply with Safety Practices
- Complies with 5S, AS9100 and Nadcap Standards and Practices
- Identifies and obtains equipment, tools and materials needed to properly perform job function
- Sets up scaffolding and safety barriers under direction
- Properly executes Hazardous Material Disposal activities
- Performs preventive maintenance on machines and facilities as required
- Knowledge of common hand tools and demonstrated mechanical capabilities
- Performs on the job training, AS9100, Nadcap training and other training as required
- Works in other Cells to support Production as required, ie; Mold Fab or Mill Cells
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines. The incumbent shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
- Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
U.S. PERSON STATUS MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION. Proof of US Citizenship or Permanent Residency may be required due to access to sensitive data and our coverage under EAR and ITAR regulations.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED required, college level or trade school education preferred. One or more years of experience in related field may be substituted for education. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Experience in aircraft frame assembly/maintenance and/or painting would be a plus.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
Job duties may include one or more of the following:
- Advanced Assembly Procedures, will include detailed hardware installation, plus in-process and final assembly of a wide variety of tooling, parts, and models.
- Janicki Certified, Overhead Crane, Forklift and Manlift Operation (as separate Certifications)
- Operation of Pneumatic and Power tools, drills, grinders, saws, impact drivers, sanders, etc.
- Operation of Bench Power Tools, - Horizontal / Vertical Bandsaw, Bench Grinder, drill press, vertical mill/lathe, drill bit sharpener, scissors sharpener, table saw, miter saw. etc.
- Metrology, part leveling, fixturing, equipment handling, laser tracker, radar and targeting as well as Spatial Analyzer Operation (as a separate Certification)
- Perform aerospace tool finishing utilizing sanding, grinding of exacting tolerances on flat surfaces and compound curves as well as doing detailed patch/repairs on the same
- Knowledge of epoxy resin and catalyst used in repairs and surface finishing
- Understanding of mill gauging procedures
- Prepare surfaces and apply Re-spray of Putty, gel coat or epoxy per work order (as separate Certification)
- Prepare surfaces and Apply Duratec or hybrid Duratec (as a separate Certification)
- Familiar with the use/cleaning of shop paint guns and equipment
- Package and crate parts for shipment, includes shrink wrapping
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to perform repetitive tasks for an entire shift. Must be able to sit, stand, or crouch down for extended periods. Must be able to climb ladders and work platforms. Exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and paint fumes. Must be able to work under hot and cold conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE), safety glasses and respirator will be required. Must be comfortable working within confined spaces and at various heights
